Home security Question about burglar alarm tamper going off.?
I was woken up to hear my burglar alarm ringing in the house. The display had tamper light flashing and I don’t understand why this happened? Could someone have tried to disable the alarm outside or get access into my house? This happened in early hours of the morning. I’m slightly worried about this as it’s never happened before. Any help would be appreciated.
The Alarm was not set to be on at the time, so why should it ring and display the tamper light flashing and a bell ringing?

Call the alarm company to do a service on the unit. More than likely it is a bad connection on the tamper circuit, but sometimes it is an actual attempted intrusion. Most alarms are false, a few are actual intrusions, many others are intrusions by animals like cats.
The tamper light can result from many causes. It is an always on circuit even if the alarm is not on. First check the backup battery and replace it if needed.
Next check all the sensor covers to make sure they are properly in place.
This doesn’t seem to be the case for you, but a misentered entry code, after a certain number of tries will also trigger the tamper light.
Beyond that, it can be a wiring short and that can be a lot more work to isolate.
Generally, the alarm panel reads a closed or complete loop when a door or window is shut. To keep bad guys from splicing the wire and bypassing the door/window, installers place a simple resistor in the line. Could just be a bad resistor. I would have an alarm tech look at it for some peace of mind
A tamper circuit is usually a separate circuit that monitors devices. I find it hard to believe that a simple residential alarm system would include a tamper circuit except maybe on the alarm control panel door or siren box. The tamper circuit is monitoring 24/7 as it is a tamper circuit. Its purpose is to notify if a device is ‘tampered’ with during alarm off times. In the event an employee etc. was trying to disable the system for a later breaki in. I think it may just be a resistor that is loose or bad in the control panel as I said before, it is ulikely your system even uses the tamper feature. May be, as stated before, a bad battery, charger, or circuit board. May be as simple as ‘rebooting’. Turn off controller, unplug battery for a few minutes and then power back up.
I am suffering from this problem at the moment, but can’t call anyone out until tomorrow as it is a bank holiday (and costs a lot of money!). If the tamper light is on, will the alarm continue to go off at intervals? It has stopped for now, but I am worried about it going off in the night again until it is fixed!
Thanks,
Matt
