Achieving Safety With A Burglar Alarm

Years ago, home burglar alarms were only found with rich homes.  These days however, the prices have dropped and they are becoming more common with homes of average folk.  A lot of people who invest in burglar systems go for the do it yourself systems.  They can be wired or wireless, setting off an alarm when an intruder attempts to break in or when they are moving around inside of your house.

With home burglar alarms, there are two types – open and closed circuit.  Open circuit systems work by setting off an alarm when the circuit closes.  When a window or a door is opened, the circuit is immediately completed and the alarm goes off.  Closed circuit systems work the opposite way.  When a window or door is opened, the circuit is broken – also setting off the alarm.

Another, more sophisticated option, are motion sensors.  Motion sensors sense any type of motion within a certain radius to the sensor.  Once it has sensed any motion, it sends a signal out to the control panel that will analyze it and see if the movement is considered suspicious.  If the movement is indeed considered suspicious, it will react to the way you have it set up and inform the proper authorities or sound the alarm.

Motion sensors can also be adjusted as well.  You can adjust them for things such as pets walking around or any other activity that is common with your home that wouldn’t signify a burglary taking place. Motion sensor alarms are very common these days, and one of the best ways to keep your home safe from a burglar – and give you peace of mind in knowing that you are protected.

Normally, it’s a good idea to use motion sensors and magnetic switches with your burglar alarm setup.  Magnetic switches will protect doors and windows while the motion sensors will help to protect larger rooms, such as living rooms and hallways.  The combination of the two is never a bad idea – and will go a long way in protecting your home.

Another available option that you have is a security camera.  Video cameras are also common these days, and can be mounted in very strategic areas throughout the parameter of your home.  They will pick up images in the area they are mounted, which will be displayed on the monitor.  You can also record the video to a videotape as well, making it an ideal choice for anyone who wants to keep track of the information that the camera picks up.       http://www.moneybizhome.com

You can also get a burglar system from a home security company as well.  Most companies monitor their systems remotely, and always have someone in the office to look after the system.  Once the alarm is set off, the company will immediately inform the local police or send their own security personnel out to your home.  This way, night or day, no matter where you go, your home will always be protected.

Investing in a burglary system of any type is always a smart investment.  You have several different to choose from, depending on your needs.  If you’ve been worried about your home and the things you keep inside your home, you should invest in a burglary system.  They will help you keep peace of mind, and know that you are protected.  They don’t cost that much either, which makes them an even better investment.  If you own a home – you shouldn’t hesitate to invest in a burglary system.

Smoke detector and oil burner safety?

Hi friends,

The smoke detector in my basement keeps going off, 2-5 times daily but only for a minute or less. It is not a CO2 detector. I investigate when it goes off only to be greeted by the same familiar smell of the basement and a detector that promptly stops alerting. What I mean by “familiar smell” is this:
I have a field stone foundation with a lot of chinks and a dirt floor. I also have an old oil tank and burner. The basement smells like dirt and cellar and oil. (I do have a sensitive sense of smell).
I have already switched the batteries (didn’t work) and then swapped the detector with another one from the upstairs (got the same result). This tells me that the detector is not faulty.
I have already called the oil company and they did an inspection of the tank and burner and found no significant problem. They made sure all the fittings were tight and cleaned the door of the burner so it would fit flush. (still having the problem)

Obviously with such a rustic basement, nobody sleeps down there or spends time. My bedroom is on the 1st floor and the kids are on the 2nd. There is no evidence of real smoke or fire. The basement has good ventilation due to the flaws of the foundation, windows and doors.

I have several questions:
1. Do you know why the detector is going off?
2. Have you been through this? What was the solution?
3. Should I be worried about our safety? If it is smoke exhaust, then obviously it is only building up to a level that is being vented out fast enough to prevent a sustained alarm. What about the CO2? Does CO2 rise?
4. Who else can I call or what to do? Should I call the fire dept. to test or for advice? I own my own home and am financially strapped to the fullest.

My first priority is the safety of my family. Secondary is finances but that becomes a consideration if we’re not in danger and only being annoyed.

Thanks for reading this huge question, I only gave such long details in the hopes of getting good advice.
Duh, Sam I Am is right. I mean CO, carbon MONoxide. Not CO2, carbon DIoxide. Forgive me, just tired.

Easy Advice For Home Security And Safety

We are all concerned with safety and security, whether it has to do with our home or are family. Today, there are so many more dangers than there once were, and sadly, we no longer live in a completely safe world. All you have to do is turn on the news or open a newspaper to see that crime rates are on the rise and once secure cities are now having more and more safety issues. As a homeowner you have to confront this situation head on and take responsibility when it comes to protecting the things that matter most to you.

In order to do this, you must educate yourself on basic home security and safety matters, so that you can take the necessary precautions. You do not have to spend a lot of time or money to make your home more secure, but you should absolutely make this a priority. Do not hesitate to do everything that you can in order to ensure you do not become a victim or deal with the consequences of an accident at home. No one can afford to deal with the aftermath of a home burglary or another sort of tragic event, as this can be extremely devastating, both emotionally and financially.

While you may have already taken some steps to securing your home, it is important that you regular do a mental checklist and really think about all the ways that you can protect your property from intruders, or any other dangers. Here are some basic tips to keep in mind:

-Many people today know the importance of having a home security system, but if you do not have one you should absolutely get one installed as soon as possible. Do not make the mistake of investing in an extremely expensive system, as most households actually do not need an alarm that is particularly high tech or fancy. Depending on your property, you most likely need a system that monitors your front door and any downstairs entrances. If you happen to have a very large home or if you are concerned about the safety of your neighborhood, then you may consider upgrading to a 24-hour monitoring system. This means that the alarm company is basically watching your house at all hours of the day, and this can give you increased peace of mind that your home is secure.

-Equally important as a home alarm to the safety of your property and family is making sure you have working smoke detectors. A house fire is one of the most devastating things you can experience as a homeowner, and even with insurance it can put you into serious debt. Smoke detector batteries need to be changed once a year to make sure they are functioning properly, but check yours more often just to err on the side of caution. For further fire safety, you should also be extremely careful about always turning off household appliances, like the stove and oven. Avoid burning candles in the home and use caution when using your fireplace in the winter.

When shopping for alarm systems, you will discover that there is a wide variety of options available. Alarm systems range from do-it-yourself installation kits to sophisticated whole-house security networks that must be installed by professionals.

Even if you choose one of the available high-tech alarm systems, the basic concept is the same. It was made for protection and it can make you feel extra safe. In order to grasp the functions of various alarm systems, you must start with the Brain or the Control Panel. This device comes with all alarm systems and its main function is to alert output devices when receiving signals from security alarm sensors.

The Key Pad allows you to interact with the alarm systems; with its help you can turn you security alarm on and off. It is placed by the main entry and as alarm systems have evolved it has become much easier to use. This device made especially for burglar alarm systems has night time options with illuminated screens and speed use emergency, just by pushing a single button. Many alarm systems have also remote control key pads, which are lightweight and portable.

Contacts are additional features of all the available alarm systems on the market. They detect the opening and closing of doors and windows. This device alerts the control panel of alarm systems when the magnetic bond between the door frame and the door is broken. There are three types of contacts made for burglar alarm systems. Recessed contacts are hidden in the window tracks and door jams. They are more complicated to install unless the burglar alarm systems are placed during the construction phase of one’s home. Surface mounted contacts are visible when the door or windows are closed and they come in various sizes and colors to blend in. Roller ball contacts are the latest hit on the burglar alarm systems market; they are installed in the hinge side of the door jam and they are extremely efficient. All types of contacts can be hardwired directly to the control panel of the burglar alarm systems or you can choose a wireless version.

Glass break detectors are special made for burglar alarm systems. They detect the breaking of windows or glass doors by listening for the specific sound frequency of breaking glass. This kind of detectors are a very attractive feature of many burglar alarm systems.

They are able to detect movement within a pre-set range of a given enviroment and there are many types available on the market. Still, the one that most burglar alarm systems have are infrared motion detectors. They use infrared or passive infrared sensors to alert the security system to certain changes in the levels of heat and/or movement. The device is extra tricky, it sends invisible fingers out into the covered area in several layers. It even has a microchip that adjusts the device for slow and methodical temperature changes.

Still, there are some drawbacks to these devices custom made for burglar alarm systems. This technology is not able to see through walls or windows as they consider touching one of them as their final destination. Also, the beams project forward only and does not bend around corners. There are minor setbacks compared to what level of safety can this device can confer.

Other types of motion detectors offered by several burglar alarm systems are the one which can be mounted in corners or on the ceiling. The first are widely used and they are included in many burglar alarm systems as primary features. The second offer full 360° coverage and they are useful in rooms in which the corner motion detectors are blocked by doors or shelves.

There are many additional features of alarm systems. Smoke and heat detectors, gas and carbon monoxide detectors, holdup panic buttons are just some of them. All these devices come together and form amazing alarm systems, specially designed to protect your house and yourself. You should consider this investment and choose a performant security system.

Why Home Alarms Can Be Critical To Your Family’s Safety

Are you concerned about your family’s safety? With rising crime rates, safety and security are two things that many people are worried most about these days. Home Alarms can be a fantastic way to safeguard your family’s security and can provide you with the kind of peace of mind that is invaluable. Here are a few ways that an Alarm Company can help protect your family.

Home Alarms can provide more than just coverage against burglary. Home Alarms provided by the right Alarm Company can also help alert the authorities if there is a fire in your home. This may seem like something that is not necessary, but imagine what could happen if you have pets at home during the day and do not have an Alarm Company monitoring your home. Home Alarms can send a signal to the authorities if a fire does break out and they may be able to arrive in time to save your home and the items inside it.

Home Alarms that are monitored by a good Alarm Company can also help to protect you against dangers that you cannot see, smell or hear. Carbon monoxide is an invisible, odorless gas that can build up inside your home with fatal consequences. There have been many times that people have gone to sleep while carbon monoxide was building up in their homes and did not wake up the next morning. Home Alarms that can send a warning signal to the Alarm Company that is monitoring it may just be able to save the lives of you and your family.

Burglaries are becoming much more common these days and often it can be helpful to have Home Alarms set up that can help authorities thwart a robbery that is in effect. Some Alarm Companies may use systems that send out a loud signal that will frighten a robber off and others may install silent Home Alarms that send a signal both to police and the monitoring Alarm Company that is providing you with coverage. You need to decide which approach you want and this may allow you to pick the Alarm Company that you want to deal with.

There are many different options available to choose from when picking an Alarm Company to install your Home Alarms. By comparison shopping you will be able to find the one that is best for you. It is not simply a matter of comparing price. There are a few things that you should look for when you are shopping for an Alarm Company.

The first thing is how comprehensive their system is. How many keypads will you get for the cost of installation? What kind of Home Alarm systems does that particular Alarm Company install? Do they protect against fire as well as burglary? And finally, will the Alarm Company provide you with a system that can also handle medical emergencies? By deciding which features you require most you should find it easy for you to find the right company at the right price.

Maintain Home Security and Safety while Working Out at Home

Instead of spending hundreds of extra dollars each month, that many families don’t have in the budget, many homeowners today are making space to exercise from home. Exercising from home can have many benefits including spending less money, more time exercising and less time in transit, less embarrassment and lots of flexibility. Downsides include not having a team ready to help with fitness advice and safety, and a lack of moral support and of course gym equipment. Don’t get downhearted and give up on your home fitness regiment just yet. Instead, why not try following some simple home safety tips to afford yourself the best home workout possible that keeps your needs and home security in mind at the same time!

Be aware of and honest about your current fitness level. Many people decide the best way to get back in shape is to go all out, all at once. The problem is that the average person who has gone weeks, months or even years without exercise will not be able to jump into his or her ideal fitness routine without a little bit of prior conditioning and training. Knowing how fit you are and what you can handle during each individual workout routine will help you be honest about your goals. At first, workouts may even seem easy but over time you will see your endurance build without experiencing any of those horribly painful days where the new exerciser can’t even get out of bed due to muscle and joint pain.

Consult with a physician. If you have preexisting medical conditions, are a smoker, or are over 40 years of age it’s probably a good idea to talk to a medical professional before getting started. If your medical professional believes you are at risk for suffering negative effects of exercise due to a medical or lifestyle decision it may be best to only work out when someone is around in case of emergencies.

Take time to warm up. While it may be tempting to skip the boring warm up and stretching phases of a good exercise routine especially in the face of a busy family or career life, forgetting or neglecting to warm up might result in injuries that leave you crawling on your hands and knees to activate your monitored home security system. Instead of risking serious injury, take ten to fifteen minutes before each heavy exercise session to stretch and warm up muscles with light aerobic exercises.

Make an investment. Not only is it a good idea to invest a little bit of that money you are saving by skipping the gym in a good workout mat, a great pair of trainers and some safety weights, but it’s a good idea to make a personal investment in your new exercise routine. The more you stick with your exercise or workout regimen the safer you will be while exercising. This will set a good example for those who look up to you like your children, both in terms of home security and safety practices, and dedication and determination.

Staying safe at home through not only home alarms but common sense is the best thing a parent can do for their family. Find out more about adt alarm systems today.
